StartupEmpire - The Conference

Here’s a video of Jevon MacDonald and David Crow talking about the upcoming StartupEmpire conference in Toronto on November 13 and 14. It’s a Canadian conference “from entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs”.

StartupEmpire already has an amazing lineup of speakers including Don Dodge, Hugh MacLeod, Howard Lindzon, David Cohen, Austin Hill, Leila Boujnane, Lane Becker and Charlie O’Donnell. Watch the video for Jevon and David’s perspective on what they want to accomplish with the conference.

Geniale Nachbarn

Es ist schon lange her, dass ich mir ein Musikvideo dreimal hintereinander angeschaut habe, weil es mir so gut gefallen hat. Jetzt habe ich (durch das Blog von Kris Abel) auch noch herausgefunden, dass das Video zu “Man-Sized Wreath” von R.E.M. in Zusammenarbeit mit Crush Inc. entstanden ist. Crush sind Kuenstler hier aus Toronto, die nur ein paar Strassen entfernt von meinem Buero ihr Hauptquartier haben. Schoen, ein paar kreative Genies in der Nachbarschaft zu haben.

Let’s see for how long. In a few minutes Poland and Germany will play each other at the UEFA EURO 2008 tournament. The divide goes straight through the family with Lori rooting for the football team of her mother’s home country and me rooting for my home country.

UPDATE: Germany won. Tough times are over. For now.

Mon Monde / Meine Welt

Das hat man nun davon, wenn man auswandert. Man kriegt nicht mehr so viel mit von dem, was in der alten Heimat so passiert und was die alten Freunde so treiben.

So zum Beispiel, dass Christian letztes Jahr einen Film ueber Kinder von Einwanderern in Berlin und Paris gedreht hat. Hoffentlich werde ich den ganzen Film sehen, wenn ich im Juni in Berlin bin. Aber schon das kurze, eindrucksvolle Video regt zum Nachdenken an.

Definiert sich Immigration nun über eine fremde Sprache, eine Hautfarbe, einen Bleiberechtsantrag? Nichts von alledem. Mon Monde - meine Welt zeigt äußerst eindrucksvoll gerade die Schwammigkeit des Begriffs: “Es geht einfach um etwas anderes, um den Menschen.
